The 2024 IALT Spring Discourse will take place at Ulster University’s Belfast campus at 4.00pm on Friday 19 April. The theme of this year’s Spring Discourse is hate speech and crime. This is an important and timely topic, not only because the legal regimes in both jurisdictions on the island are currently under review, but also because we are seeing increasing polarisation, misinformation and ‘othering’ of individuals and groups across society.
The speakers will include Professor Jennifer Schweppe of Limerick University along with a representative from the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission. Professor Schweppe holds considerable expertise in the field, nationally, in NI (having been a member of the Expert Group for the NI review on hate crime legislation) and internationally (e.g. co-director of the International Network for Hate Studies). Details of the NIHRC speaker will be added to the Eventbrite page shortly.
The event will be followed by a drinks reception sponsored by Ulster University’s School of Law.
Venue: 2-24 York Street, Belfast, BT15 1AP in the Moot Court, BC-07-313, There will be campus ambassadors on ground floor in BC Block directing attendees to the lifts and campus ambassadors on level 7 to direct to the Moot Court.
Car parking – there is lots of on street parking around the campus. If you require disabled parking please contact the organisers.
