Kevin Boyle Book Prize Criteria 2025
The Irish Association of Law Teachers invites nominations for the 2025 Kevin Boyle Book Prize for Outstanding Legal Scholarship.
Nominations will close on 15 July 2025
The IALT will award a prize of €750 to an Ordinary Member of the IALT (who meets the requirements set out below) who has published a book that is deemed to have made a particularly outstanding contribution to legal scholarship. The prize winner will be announced at the IALT annual conference in November 2025.
The closing date for nominations for the 2025 prize is 15 July 2025.
RULES
- The competition is open to Ordinary Members of the Association who meet the following requirements:
- The member must be a paid-up Ordinary Member of the Association on the date of nomination and
- The member
- must on the date of nomination be employed (either part-time or full-time) by an institution of higher education or research institution on the island of Ireland (Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland) or
- must have been an employee of such an institution (either part-time or full-time) for a period or periods amounting to at least 2 years in the ten years preceding 22 June 2025
- A member of the Association must nominate the book for it to be considered. Members may nominate their own book.
- Nominees must send a completed nomination form and two copies of the book to the President of the Association on or before the closing date of 15 July 2025. Please send by post to Dr Shauna Page, Room MT101, School of Law, Ulster university, BT48 7JL, Northern Ireland.
- For shortlisting purposes, nominees should identify one specific chapter that they wish to have considered in detail. The judging panel will read shortlisted texts in their entirety.
- Nominations not accompanied by at least two copies of the book will not be considered.
- Books jointly authored by no more than three persons are eligible. Edited books are not eligible.
- The prize may be divided between co-authors of a single work or between the authors of separate works that are deemed to be of equal merit. The Association reserves the right not to make an award.
- Books will be eligible if they are original works that have been published between 23 June 2023 and 22 June 2025 inclusive.
- Books previously entered for the prize are not eligible for consideration.
- The publisher of the book need not be based in Ireland.
- The President of the Association will appoint the judging panel. The decision of the judging panel on eligibility and any other matter arising from the competition will be final.
