Law in the Modern World: New Problems, New Solutions, 2004
Date: 2nd April, 2004
The Irish Association of Law Teachers’ Annual Conference 2004
City Hotel, Derry from Friday April 2nd, to Sunday April 4th, 2004
This event will mark the 25th Anniversary of the Irish Association of Law Teachers.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Law in the Modern World: New Problems, New Solutions”. This conference seeks to examine, under a variety of headings, the role of law and laws in our modern, complex and heterogeneous society, both at home and abroad.
In the 25 years of the IALT, much has changed in the landscape of law and legal systems. Law Reform, codification and consolidation, as well as fresh caselaw, have transformed legal rules and legal systems both at home and abroad, sometimes beyond recognition. In other areas, however, legal change has been more muted, with the result that some legal rules appropriate to former times may sit uneasily with the realities of the 21st century. How do these rules cater to the realities of the 21st century?
The conference is being held in the four-star City Hotel, a bright modern venue located convenient to Derry (Londonderry) City Centre, providing breath-taking views of the River Foyle and the Guildhall. This historic city, site of the siege of 1688-9, boasts many fine attractions including the historic City Walls, which envelop one square mile of the city centre. Convenient to the Giant’s Causeway and the beautiful Co. Donegal, Derry provides the ideal gateway for exploring North-west Ireland. For further details, check out www.derryvisitor.com
In addition to the annual gala dinner of the Association, we hope to host historic tours of the City of Derry as well as a leisure cruise down the River Foyle, which flows just opposite the City Hotel.
